Reds Year-Round
By Kelsey Gruben
While summer days call for chilled whites and crisp rosés, red wine lovers often feel left out of the seasonal sipping scene. But here’s the secret: not all reds need to be reserved for cooler weather. In fact, some are even better when served slightly chilled.
When it comes to light- to medium-bodied reds with bright acidity and aromatic complexity, a gentle chill enhances their structure, softens the tannins, and makes their fruit and spice notes sing. The key? Don’t overdo it—15 to 30 minutes in the fridge is all it takes to transform your pour.
At Le Vigne Winery, we believe red wine should be enjoyed all year round. Here are a few of our favorite bottles that prove red can be just as refreshing as white—especially when the sun is out.
2019 Cuore Della Vigna – Super Tuscan Elegance, Perfectly Chilled
Crafted from 65% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, our 2019 Cuore Della Vigna is a bold yet versatile blend that shines in every season. A brief chill—just 15 to 20 minutes in the fridge—mellows its tannins and brings the red cherry, violets, and soft herbal notes to the forefront.
Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure supports the Sangiovese’s vibrant acidity, making it a beautifully balanced option whether served cool or at room temperature. And with just a touch of Cabernet Franc, the wine’s savory, peppery nuance makes it the perfect poolside companion—or a standout addition to a summer sangria.
2021 Primitivo – A Floral, Fruit-Forward Chillable Red
Primitivo, Zinfandel’s Italian twin, is naturally juicy, aromatic, and made for summer sipping. Our 2021 vintage showcases lively notes of cranberry, cherry, cinnamon, and rose petal—aromas that are elevated after about 30 minutes in the fridge.
This young, expressive Primitivo has a light body and a spice-kissed finish that pairs beautifully with grilled vegetables, charcuterie boards, or simple pasta dishes. Chilling it reveals a softer, brighter profile—perfect for laid-back alfresco evenings.
2019 Malbec – Bold Fruit with a Summer Twist
Known for its rich, jammy character, Malbec isn’t usually the first red you'd reach for in the heat. But our 2019 vintage challenges that assumption. Bursting with raspberry, blueberry, cherry, and cranberry, this wine delivers bold fruit flavors that come alive with a brief chill.
While Malbec has a fuller body, its vibrant fruit core and medium acidity make it surprisingly suited for summertime. Serve slightly chilled or use it as a base for a sangria—it’s a dynamic, fruit-forward red that’s as fun as it is flavorful.
